The President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) imposed a nearly PLN 5.9 million fine on Restaurant Partner Polska, the company operating the Glovo platform in Poland, for unlawfully obtaining photos of app users’ IDs.
The platform required users to submit a scan of their IDs, among other things, in the event of a Supplier reporting an attempted theft of an order, the use of counterfeit currency, or a mismatch between payment card details and user data.
The UODO stated that the fine imposed on the platform “takes into account the nature and gravity of the violation” and the duration of the practice (since July 2019). The app also noted that it has over 3.4 million active users in Poland.
The platform is required to delete all information collected in this manner within 30 days. It also has the right to appeal the decision to court and is exempt from paying the fine until a judgment is issued.
