A conflict is escalating between Spanish trade unions and the platform Glovo. Three weeks ago, the city of Bilbao experienced a flash flood—an event for which local authorities had issued warnings (we reported on this previously). Despite this, Glovo continued to accept customer orders and assign them for fulfillment. Some individuals working as couriers for the platform, seeing the conditions on the streets, sought shelter and did not follow the algorithm’s instructions. Even in such a critical situation, Glovo penalized them: some had their daily earnings docked, while others lost performance-based bonuses tied to the number of orders completed.
Consequently, the trade union CCOO has filed a formal complaint with the Labor Inspectorate against both the Glovo platform and its fleet partner, a company called Fliits. Both entities compelled workers to operate under hazardous conditions, showing a disregard for their safety.
