The DoorDash platform (which operates as Wolt in Poland) has reached a settlement with New York City authorities. The platform agreed to pay $131.5 million to resolve an investigation by the New York Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, which sought payment for underpaid or delayed wages owed to individuals working as delivery drivers for the platform. The case involves approximately 260,000 delivery drivers.
Under the settlement, the platform will pay, among other things, $83 million for underpaid wages—including compensation for time spent waiting for orders. Another $12 million will be paid to drivers as compensation for delayed payments (the average payout will be $48, with each affected individual receiving a minimum of $10). Additionally, the platform will pay over $16 million in financial penalties imposed by city authorities.
