Every delivery platform allows customers to tip delivery workers. Some actively encourage it, while others discourage it by hiding the option. But what happens to the tip if, for example, a restaurant cancels the order?

The Federation of German Consumer Organizations sued the platform Lieferando (which operates as Pyszne.pl in Poland) over this issue. The platform’s terms and conditions stated that a tip given by a customer was non-refundable and—in the event of an order cancellation—was forfeited to the platform. In late June of this year, the Higher Regional Court of Berlin ruled this clause illegal.
