The Indian trade unions TGPWU (Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union) and IFAT (Indian Federation of App-based Transport Workers) have called on platform delivery workers to strike on two public holidays: December 25 and 31. It is estimated that up to 170,000 workers in over 20 cities (including Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad) participated in the strike.

The main causes of the strikes:
– “10-minute delivery” model: Workers protested against extreme time pressure, which they believed endangered life and limb on the roads. They demanded a ban on the lightning-fast 10-minute delivery model.
– Low wages and a lack of pay transparency: Delivery workers complained about falling income despite increasing order volumes and unclear pay calculation algorithms.
– Lack of social security: Delivery workers still lack health, pension, and accident insurance. – Arbitrary Account Blocking: Providers objected to apps blocking their accounts without the possibility of appeal.
