Uber has reached an agreement to acquire Delivery Hero, a platform operating under multiple brands in 99 countries (including Foodpanda in Asia, PedidosYa in Latin America, Glovo in Europe, and Talabat in the Middle East). Uber will pay $14.8 billion for the shares. The boards of both platforms have already approved the transaction. Interestingly, the Prosus fund (which also owns shares in Just Eat Takeaway.com – operating in Poland as Pyszne.pl) will also sell shares.

To avoid problems with market regulators (i.e., to avoid accusations of market monopoly), Uber will not acquire Delivery Hero’s operations in 14 countries – including those where it operates under the Glovo brand (Poland, Spain, Portugal, Romania, and Moldova). The SSW Partners fund will acquire Delivery Hero’s local companies for $1.6 billion.

Uber has committed to maintaining its current employment levels until 2029, and the transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027.

It is not entirely clear what SSW Partners’ plans are – whether it will remain a passive investor or actively manage the Platforms and, for example, withdraw from a specific country.
