Following consultations with social partners, the Swedish government published a draft of a new law on platform work in January of this year. A legal presumption of the existence of an employment relationship will be introduced if the facts indicate control and management of an employee by the platform (including through the algorithm). This principle also applies to individuals employed through Fleet Partners.

In addition, the Employment Agency will gain the authority to initiate proceedings and decide on the presumption of full-time employment. Individuals working for platforms will also be able to independently seek a court order to establish an employment relationship.

The new law must still be approved by the Swedish Parliament.
