At the turn of May and June of this year, due to extreme heatwaves, regional authorities in Italy issued long-term orders suspending physical work outdoors during the hottest hours of the day. For the first time, these regulations explicitly state that they also apply to those working as Suppliers for Platforms.

This decision, although dictated by health and safety concerns, is devastating for many Suppliers – their earnings are often below the minimum wage, and the new regulations will reduce them even further.

Therefore, Trade Unions (NIdiL CGIL, FeLSA CISL, UilTemp) called on the Italian Ministry of Labor to establish a special fund financed by Platforms to compensate workers. Discussions on this matter began on July 16, 2026. To exert greater pressure on the government, strikes and demonstrations were organized in many cities the day before. The participants were mainly delivery drivers working for the Glovo and Deliveroo platforms.

Unfortunately, the meeting ended in failure. The Ministry only sent lower-level officials to the meeting and did not present any concrete proposals for resolving the problem.
