The 2nd International Platform Workers Congress (2nd International Platform Workers Congress) begins today in Los Angeles, USA. This important global event unites those working in the gig economy (delivery workers, drivers, caregivers, teachers, etc.) in the fight for their labor rights.
The congress will last three days and is a hybrid event – delegations from five continents (including Latin America, the USA, Europe, and Asia) participate, and the proceedings are also broadcast online.
The congress program focuses on the challenges of the modern labor market, particularly employee management through algorithms. A significant portion of the program will be devoted to building a global network of trade unions and associations.
The main goal of the congress is to fight for the recognition of employee status (instead of “independent contractor”).
