If you are wondering when the newly adopted Platform Work Directive (we wrote more about it, e.g. here) will be implemented – we have rather bad news. Or even three.
First: Member States have two years to do so.
Second: even if it is implemented in Poland, Platform’s lobbyists will make sure that it is appropriately diluted and as beneficial as possible for them.
Third: the case of Belgium. What is this all about? Belgium introduced the law on presumption of employment (when working for Platforms) 16 months ago: on January 1, 2023. But only a few days ago [May 2, 2024], a special commission concluded the case of the first three people who demanded employee status from the Uber Eats Platform. Yes! It took the committee sixteen months to consider this case!
So: really, there are still many months, maybe even years of exploitation ahead of us!
