The news isn’t entirely our cup of tea, but it’s interesting. A heated conflict is brewing in Barcelona, Spain, between the taxi drivers’ association Elite Taxi and the board of FC Barcelona football club. A protest and a “complete blockade of the city” were announced for yesterday in response to the announcement of a sponsorship agreement between the club and the platform Uber.

Tito Álvarez, the association’s spokesman, announced that Elite Taxi’s goal is to completely invalidate the agreement. He described it as a deal with criminals who built their business on labor exploitation and tax evasion. He also said: “I’ve never been under such pressure. I’ve been a Barcelona fan since birth. I have it tattooed on my face. My dad took me to matches. I’ve been supporting Barcelona for 14 years. I live and breathe Barça; it’s part of my life, and it’s in my blood.”

Tuesday’s protest was called off at the last minute after negotiations in which Joan Gaspart, the club’s former president, intervened. It’s worth noting that FC Barcelona is a club whose leadership is elected by a vote of its supporters’ club members.
