The German federal chamber (Bundesrat) has called on the federal government to significantly tighten regulations regarding platform work—particularly in the food and grocery delivery sectors. The Bundesrat is demanding a statutory requirement for platforms to directly employ delivery workers, rather than relying on fleet partners. The resolution highlights that many delivery workers operate in a legal “grey area,” grappling with low wages, sham contracts, a lack of information, and total dependence on the algorithms that manage their work.
The Bundesrat is an assembly comprising members of the governments of the individual federal states (*Länder*).
