The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) has published a report: “The Platform Work Directive – Trade union guide to transposition.” The publication was presented just a few days ago. It serves as a handbook for trade union organizations and decision-makers across Europe. The author of the study is Ben Wray, long-time coordinator of the Gig Economy Project.

The author and publisher call on EU member states to pursue ambitious implementation of the Platform Work Directive, as only such action will prevent the erosion of workers’ rights in Europe.

The author emphasizes the crucial importance of establishing a mechanism for the presumption of full-time employment that automatically shifts the burden of proof to platforms, eliminating the phenomenon of bogus self-employment. Algorithmic management systems must also become transparent. Trade unions should have real insight into how decisions regarding task allocation and employee evaluations are made.
