We remain in the world of big money: as reported by the Spanish economic newspaper “Cinco Dias”, the Glovo online platform literally escaped from the guillotine. Over the last 4 months, courts in Spain have postponed the payment of fines worth over EUR 67 million. We have already informed about this previously, but the scale of the courts’ clemency is shocking.
Fines were imposed on the Platform because it frequently employs employees as subcontractors (which is common in this industry around the world). However, in Spain, after years of protests and court battles, in order to limit exploitation, a law was introduced imposing the presumption of employment.
In one of the justifications for the judgments, the Court wrote directly that continuing the enforcement of these receivables means the need to file a bankruptcy petition for the Platform.
