We continue the series of presentations of trade unions, associations and groups that fight against the exploitation of Platforms. Today Italy, Florence to be precise.
On December 18, people working for Internet Platforms organized a completely spontaneous protest to defend their own safety. Many workers (especially those who have come from Pakistan) complain about the aggression they experience during night shifts (especially outside the city center, but also near the main train station). They easily become victims of gangs who want to steal their money, mobile phones or bicycles. One of the employees was stabbed.
The local branch of the Nidil-Cgil trade union emphasizes that Internet Platforms transfer the risk to employees by agreeing to accept payments in cash, without caring about their safety. Moreover, losing one’s wallet with documents (such as a residence permit) exposes migrant workers to additional danger from aggressive police.
