The Spanish branch of the UberEats platform announced that it has filed an appeal against the decision of the Basque Country Court in the Spanish Supreme Court. The court imposed a fine on the platform, finding that UberEats was obligated to verify whether individuals working as delivery drivers in the province of Biscay had the necessary permits.
Inspections that began in 2023 revealed the existence of a black market for accounts on platforms such as Uber Eats and Glovo. For example, in the case of the Glovo platform, as many as 813 cases of this type of work were identified.
The total value of the fines for the platform in Spain could exceed €1 billion. Uber’s subsidiary (Portier Spain SL) has already secured €177 million against future fines and provided a bank guarantee of €130 million to continue the legal battle.
