Yesterday [October 23, 2025], despite the truly poor weather, many people participated in a strike rally organized in Berlin by the German Food, Beverage and Catering Trade Union (NGG). The strike was a response to the decision of the Lieferando platform (operating in Poland as Pyszne.pl) to force 2,000 workers into pseudo-self-employment or employment with Fleet Partners.

Yesterday, the Confederation of Labor Trade Union operating at Pyszne.pl issued a special statement regarding the strike in Berlin (subscribe to the union’s Telegram channel)

Today, a strike is taking place by couriers from the German food service Pyszne (Lieferando) in Berlin. The reason is that the company is laying off its delivery drivers and rehiring them through intermediaries. This means less stable working conditions, a lack of control over legal violations, and a disruption to the activities of trade unions, which have previously been able to provide stable employment contracts (unlike in Poland) and benefits for German couriers.

The trade union expresses solidarity with its colleagues from across the western border. We believe that the use of intermediaries serves to blur the company’s responsibility and worsen working conditions. We hope that the Platform Work Directive, which Poland must implement into national law within a year, will prevent such practices in the future.
