The online magazine Politico reported that the Governor of California [USA] has signed an agreement to form a union for drivers working for the Uber and Lyft platforms. Politico calls this agreement “groundbreaking” because, contrary to what you might think, California is the second state (after Massachusetts) where union members can legally form a statewide union in this industry.

However, at the same time, the same governor decided to reduce the mandatory insurance fees that the platforms had to pay to provide their services.

This is certainly progress, but we remind you that it’s not always and everywhere necessary to operate as a registered union. It’s simply worth fighting for the rights of workers for yourself and the people you work with.
