Last weekend [September 25-26, 2025], the 4th #Platforum conference took place in Cyprus. This annual meeting dedicated to the employment rights of those employed by platforms was attended by workers themselves, as well as trade union representatives, researchers, activists, and officials. This year, over 100 people attended the event. Discussions focused primarily on the implementation of the Platform Work Directive in individual EU countries, but also on strategies for organizing and representing platform workers through trade unions.

However, the most attention was devoted to JustEat Takeaway’s recent decision: to cease hiring delivery drivers across the continent. In previous years, the platform has already introduced new measures in the UK and France, and this year it is implementing the same model in Austria and Germany, where layoffs currently affect at least 3,000 delivery drivers. Additionally, during the meeting, news broke that JustEat is also implementing a new (non-)hiring model in Denmark.
