The day after tomorrow [19.06.2025] a court case against the Wolt Platform begins in Berlin [Germany]. The platform has been sued for payment of the wages owed by one of the people working as a Supplier in the period from November 2022 to January 2023. The court will have to decide whether the person who carries out orders via the application is an employee or (as the Platform claims) only a subcontractor. The lawsuit emphasizes that the Platform fully controls the employee: it issues orders, settles work, provides instructions, support in the event of problems with the execution of orders, and even continuously evaluates the work. And it is also the Platform that determines and pays the wages. So it is simply an employer-employee relationship, regardless of what the Platform calls it.
The lawsuit is supported by a coalition of workers’ rights groups:
– Migrant*innen für Menschenwürdige Arbeit
– Lieferando Workers Collective
– Migrant Workers Solidarity Movement
– Berlin Workers Support
– Initiativ Kämpfende Arbeiter:innen
– Stiftung Menschenwürde und Arbeitswelt
A demonstration is planned in front of the court building at Magdeburger Platz before the hearing (starting at 11:00)
