It is worth knowing and being aware of this. While you are slogging away in the rain and cold, the University of Lodz is organizing a conference “The problem of the scope of statutory regulation of atypical forms of earning money on the example of external employment and platform work”. The co-organizer is the National Labor Inspectorate. You will probably say: what do we care? Why are you bothering us with this?
We are writing about this not because the topics will be raised concerning the current situation of work for Platforms. And not because the possible legal solutions to be implemented as part of the implementation of the Directive on Work for Platforms will be discussed. After all, this public debate has to start sometime. We are writing about it for two other reasons.
First: a total of 37 people were invited to the debate, including 7 people representing state institutions (ZUS and the Labor Inspectorate), 3 people representing the OPZZ trade union, and the remaining 27 academic communities and business organizations. And how many people represent us, the “subject” of this debate? An even, round ZERO. Yes, yes! The university is organizing a debate in which they will discuss our work without asking us for our opinion.
Second reason: The sponsors of this debate are… Glovo, Uber and Bolt platforms.
And let’s add: the program includes the presentation of awards by the State Labor Inspectorate in the “Employer organizer of safe work” competition. What are your bets? Who will win?
Oh, and one more thing: the conference is under the patronage of Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk (Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy). This is how the New Left begins to make friends with Internet Platforms.
