Last week, we wrote about the call for strike action by all Platform Delivery Workers on Valentine’s Day. The call was issued by the US-based coalition Justice for App Workers. The timing seems ideal: Valentine’s Day is usually a flood of orders, and a strike would shake the ground under Platforms’ feet.
However, the UK-based GMB Trade Union has issued a statement pointing out that it has asked Platforms Deliveroo and UberEats to offer a financial bonus to Delivery Workers on this day.
Is this a good idea? Get a bonus one day and work for wages below human dignity the rest of the time?
