The Fairwork Project has published another report on working conditions for Platforms – this time in Chile. Based on the analysis of many factors (including wages, form of employment, contract terms), this report assesses (in the form of a ranking) working conditions in five Platforms. Here are the results (maximum 10 points):
Cabify – 5 points (Passenger transportation platform)
PedidosYa – 2 points (Delivery Platform)
Cornershop – 2 points (Delivery platform, recently part of Uber Eats)
Uber – 1 point (Passenger transportation platform)
Justo – 1 point (Delivery platform)
inDrive – zero points (Passenger transport platform)
Didi – zero points (Passenger transportation platform)
Rappi – zero points (Delivery platform)
Uber Eats – zero points (Delivery platform)
Interestingly, in Chile, a law has been in force since September 2022 guaranteeing people working for Platforms a minimum hourly rate. But only one platform (Cabify) has proven that it actually guarantees earnings equal to or greater than the minimum wage. The rest successfully circumvented this law.
Fairwork is an international project covering 38 countries on 5 continents. It is coordinated by the Oxford Internet Institute and WZB Berlin Social Science Center.
