In a series of presentations by trade unions, associations and groups that fight against Platform exploitation around the world, today we return to New York and the Los Deliveristas Unidos trade union. LDU is currently running a campaign demanding that Platforms make it easier for customers to tip couriers. In industries where salaries are low, tips often play an important role in helping people make ends meet.

According to LDU, the Platforms have now deliberately made the “courier tip” options more difficult – this is supposed to be “revenge” for LDU winning the court case. This year, after years of delays in courts by Platforms, a new law on the minimum hourly wage for Platforms came into force. From an unregulated (LDU estimated) rate of around $5, it has been raised to over $19.
