Last Friday [May 17, 2024], people working as suppliers in Turkey organized a solidarity protest with the supplier murdered a few days earlier. Ata Emre Akman worked for Dominos Pizza and was fatally attacked as he was leaving the building where he was delivering an order. He most likely fell victim to a series of dramatic mistakes: the murderer suspected him of having an affair with his mother, and the pizza delivery was supposedly just an excuse to visit her. Meanwhile, Ata was delivering pizza to a completely different address than that of his alleged lover.

The Delivery Workers’ Rights Association, which organized Friday’s protest, released a report on delivery deaths in Turkey. In 2022, 58 people died at work, in 2023 – 68, and in 2024 so far 22. The protest was organized under the slogan “We don’t want to die while working”.
