The Italian platform Foodinho (owned by Delivery Hero, which operates as Glovo in Poland) has been placed under one-year judicial supervision. This decision was made in connection with allegations of labor exploitation and illegal employment. Glovo’s CEO, Oscar Pierre, has also been investigated.
According to the prosecutor’s office, those working as delivery drivers received an average of just €2.50 per delivery. These earnings were up to 75% below the poverty line. The legal status of the workers was also questioned. Although the delivery drivers were officially self-employed, the prosecutor’s office found that they were in fact working as regular employees, as their work was strictly managed and controlled by the platform’s algorithm.
The court therefore appointed an administrator to oversee the process of improving working conditions, ensuring appropriate legal status for delivery drivers, and ensuring compliance with labor and safety regulations.
