Delivery platforms operating in India (such as Blinkit and Zepto) have officially stopped promoting the slogan “10-minute delivery.” This decision is a direct result of intervention by the Ministry of Labor and two strikes by delivery workers that took place during the Christmas and New Year period. The government and trade unions argued that such short delivery times endanger the safety and lives of workers, forcing them to engage in risky driving and work under enormous psychological pressure.
Despite changes in marketing and the removal of delivery timers from customer apps, the situation for delivery companies remains complicated. The platforms have not officially discontinued this service, and no official communication about the policy change has been communicated to delivery companies. The companies maintain that delivery speeds are due to proximity to warehouses (so-called dark stores), not to pressure on delivery companies’ speed. However, employees emphasize that algorithms and rating systems still favor the fastest delivery companies.
