Seriously: just a few days before May 1 [28.04.2025], the Blinkit Platform operating in India blocked the accounts of 150 people working as Delivery Drivers in the city of Varanasi. This was the Platform’s response to an earlier strike. The Delivery Drivers protested, among other things, against mandatory working hours (from 12 to 16). Working conditions are at their most difficult during these hours: the city is extremely hot, and not everyone can work in such conditions.
The Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (GIPSWU) reported that the Platform had already reactivated around 120 accounts. The condition for unblocking was to sign a document declaring that they would not engage in any “inappropriate activities”.
