Last week, a court in the Greek city of Volos issued a ruling in the case of three individuals working as suppliers for the Wolt Platform. More than a year after the trial began, the court found that, although these individuals were formally subcontractors for a Wolt Platform Partner, they were in fact full-fledged Wolt employees.
The SVEOD Trade Union issued a statement on the matter, which we publish in full below.

ZERO TOLERANCE
About two years ago, Wolt once again revealed its true colors by introducing its first subcontractor (in the city of Volos). This person took over the employment of suppliers under open-ended contracts (i.e., as full-time employees) to fulfill orders for Wolt.
The slogan “everything legal,” which initially seemed like a joke to the employees, quickly escalated into dozens of hours of unpaid overtime each week and thousands of euros in unpaid wages and social security contributions, while the subcontractor pocketed thousands of euros in profits while doing absolutely nothing.
In opposition to modern-day volunteering and slavery, three colleagues—employees of the same subcontractor—decided to fight for their due wages, first reporting the matter to the Labor Inspectorate and then taking it to court. In court, irrefutable evidence presented by the suppliers refuted the ridiculous claims made by Wolt and the subcontractor (who even went so far as to claim that the employees were working voluntarily for Wolt).
The court not only ruled in favor of the workers and ordered payment of all outstanding wages, but also found that the actual employer (and therefore responsible for the exploitation of the workers) was Wolt itself, as the sole business of both the subcontractor and the workers was processing the platform’s orders.
This officially confirmed that the subcontractors were nothing more than figureheads, designed to free the platforms from the responsibilities of their true employers. Unfortunately, this lesson was not learned, as shortly after the first subcontractor left, a second one appeared—this time with “self-employed” workers (whom he calls almost daily to ensure they are working).
Nevertheless, we assure them that we will ensure that the remaining subcontractors face the same consequences.
