Gothamist magazine has drawn attention to a new and rather paradoxical situation. In New York, 95 former employees of the DoorDash and Motoclick platforms filed a lawsuit seeking payment of unpaid wages. The amount at issue is a considerable sum of $78,000. But at the same time, they are all worried about their fate: the platforms employed them despite the fact that they did not have a legally regulated migrant status. And yet the newly elected president of the USA has announced mass deportations of all people with an irregular status. If this were to happen, it would be convenient for the platforms. There is no person – there is no lawsuit in court.

But wait, why do the platforms employ such people at all? The answer is simple: because their difficult life situation is very convenient for the platforms. First of all, such people will agree to even the worst pay and working conditions. Secondly, they are very alienated from society – in the event of a conflict with the Platform, they are not aware of their rights and the obligations that the Platform has. And thirdly: such people do not want to reveal themselves, they do not want to report to the police or to the courts.
