The Spanish magazine El Salto published a shocking article about accidents at work among employees of Internet Platforms. This text was written as part of an international journalistic investigation and exposes the practices and impunity of Internet Platforms.

According to the authors, over 70% of Platform employees in Bilbao are people who do not have documents allowing them to be legally employed.

While in Spain everyone working for Platforms must have insurance at work, those who do not have documents work illegally, as so-called “substitutes”. They rent the account of an employee registered on the Platform, usually for a commission of 25% to 50% of their salary. And they can’t access the insurance because it’s not in their name.

At the same time, these people are most determined to maximize earnings – which is why they often suffer from accidents – they often work from eight in the morning to twelve at night, especially on weekends.

But it is not only the lack of insurance that is a tragedy for them. Because they do not have documents, if they are hospitalized, they may be deported. That is why they do not undertake any treatment after accidents.
