The scientific journal Public Health published the results of a study that aimed to assess the effectiveness of educational health messages and default menu options in food ordering apps. The aim was to check whether appropriately setting the options and messages would encourage consumers to choose dishes with reduced salt. The study was conducted in Chinese restaurants and analyzed over 870 thousand orders.
The conclusions of the study: fairly simple changes to the menu layout in apps proved effective in encouraging consumers to order dishes with reduced salt.
And according to the researchers, this means that these results have obvious implications for policymakers, researchers and the private sector.
