Rest of World, an online magazine, has published an interesting article about the impact of Delivery Platforms on the Indian market of small local shops, the so-called Kirana. This is an important social and economic part of the Indian economy. There is a small, family-owned shop of this type on almost every corner in every town. But Delivery Platforms, offering fast deliveries of purchases from their own warehouses, can change that.

According to Rest of World, over 200,000 Kiranas have already disappeared in the last year, mostly in large cities, where Platforms operate. It is estimated that over the next 6 years more than 25% of all such shops will close. Although, of course, there are many more factors causing these shops to close.
