Last Wednesday [4.09.2024] in New York [USA] there was a demonstration of thousands of people working as taxi drivers for the Uber and Lyft Platforms. This is another edition of the conflict between employees and these Platforms. It is about mass layoffs. According to the law in force in New York, the Platforms are obliged to provide employees with the minimum wage per hour of work. But they found a way to “optimize”: as soon as the employee approaches the threshold guaranteeing him this minimum wage, his account on the application is suspended (i.e. he is fired from work). In this way, both Platforms avoid paying employees the higher wages they deserve. There is also a conflict between the two Platforms: Uber is a global player, Lyft is rather local. The city authorities joined the conflict, a month ago an agreement was negotiated. Unfortunately, the situation of the Employees remains unchanged.
