In recent days, information has circulated in the media about a settlement concluded in the United States between Uber and Lyft Platforms and the Attorney General.

Under the settlement, Uber will pay $290 million and Lyft $38 million, and the case concerns their passenger transportation services. Both companies admitted that they systematically defrauded their employees.
Attorney General Letitia James said this is the largest wage theft settlement in her office’s history.

The investigation focused on suspicions that Uber and Lyft improperly collected certain taxes and fees from New York drivers, passing them on from passengers to employees. Over 100,000 employees fell victim to these practices!

Of course, we realize that this does not apply to the labor rights of suppliers, but it shows the scale and possibilities of abuse committed by Internet Platforms around the world.
