\nThe Office stated that Uber did not specify in its regulations how long it stores the personal data of its drivers, or how it secures this data by sending it to entities in countries it did not specify, outside the European Economic Area (EEA).<\/p>\n
Uber also hindered its drivers’ ability to exercise their right to privacy by unnecessarily complicating requests for access to personal information.<\/p>\n
The fine was imposed after more than 170 French drivers complained to a French human rights organization, which complained to the French data protection authority. However, since Uber has its European headquarters in the Netherlands, it was transferred to the Dutch office.<\/p>\n
