During the 114th session of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Convention No. 193 concerning decent work in the platform economy was adopted. This is the first-ever binding international treaty regulating the platform labor market.<\/p>\n
This document could be of significant importance to all those working for platforms, including suppliers. The convention guarantees workers:
\n– freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining regardless of employment status.
\n– transparency of algorithms and protection from automated management by them.
\n– the right to a minimum wage, timely payments, and reimbursement of labor costs.<\/p>\n
Of course, some countries (such as the United States) voted against it. But in a symbolic way, it ends an era in which platform workers remained “invisible” to legal systems. Now it’s time for governments to take action and national ratifications.<\/p>\n
Although real changes in our work are still a long way off.<\/p>\n
